From Joanna of the Trumpington Community Orchard Team:

I am very pleased to announce that on Friday 15 October we have a special talk on the history of Cambridgeshire apples and orchards, with Gavin Maclennan from the Brogdale Fruit Collection.

Gavin will be showing us samples of apples from the varieties that we are growing in Trumpington - so we know what to expect in a couple of years!

This will be a fascinating talk and a chance to learn more about local fruit.

Tickets are £2 at the door - the venue is the new Trumpington Pavilion on Foster Road/Byron Square. Talk starts at 7:30pm, doors open from 7pm. We will also be selling bottles of local apple juice.

Other Apple Events are piling up:
9 October - I will be at Burwash Manor Apple Day, helping the East of England Apples and Orchards Project to ID your unknown apples - bring along an apple and put me to the test!

10 October - This is the usual Monthly Maintenance day at the orchard, from 11am - 1pm. Do turn up to help put the orchard to bed for the winter. I will be at the Fulbourn Community day, on the old orchard site in the nature reserve 11:30am - 3:30pm

14 October - We are giving a talk to Girton Garden Society from 7:30pm. Tickets available at the door.

I hope to see you at one of these apple events soon!

September 23rd Special meeting to discuss tree planting plans
A special West / Central Area Committee meeting will take place to discuss tree planting on Jesus Green and Midsummer Common on Thursday, 23rd September, 2010 7.30 pm at the Guildhall
July 1st
The City Council held a tree seminar.  Participants were given a number of presentations by council officers, and then participated in a number of workshops where tree planting strategies for Jesus Green and Midsummer Common were mapped out.  These were then displayed to the whole group. Officers will now collate the results and work out a proposed planting scheme.  It is planned to plant trees over the coming winter.  Inveterate blogger Richard Taylor attended, and has written up his experience.

Green Networking Forum
On March 26th 2010 we held our first Green Networking Forum with invited groups, individuals and council officers concerned with the green spaces.  Special thanks to local historian and Blue Badge Guide Allan Brigham, who gave an inspiring speech about the many green spaces of Cambridge.  Many thanks to all who attended, we hope that you found it useful and enjoyable.  We will be in touch with you soon about future events via our emailing list.  If you didn't attend our last event, but would like to attend a future meeting, please get in touch with us.  See our 'Contact us' page

If we can be of assistance in spreading news and information, please get in touch.  In the meantime we will continue to build links with other 'green' groups around the city.
